Fifteen in 1986: the truth underground

Fifteen children disappeared in 1986 during a school trip. Thirty-nine years later, construction workers found their bus, buried several meters deep in the heart of a forest. But when the police opened the doors and looked inside, they made a chilling discovery.

In the spring of 1986, fifteen students aged nine to eleven went on a trip with their teacher to a neighboring town.

The parents had said goodbye to their children in the morning and agreed to pick them up from school at the end of the day. But the school bus never returned.

For several weeks, the police searched the forests, inspected the roads, and interviewed witnesses. Yet, no one could explain where the enormous yellow bus, with its sixteen passengers and driver, had disappeared to.

Eventually, the search was called off, and the disappearance of the children remained one of the most terrifying mysteries of this small town.

The discovery, thirty-nine years later
. Thirty-nine years have passed.

One day, a construction crew was clearing a forested area to build a new road. During the work, the excavator bucket suddenly struck a metal object.

The workers began to carefully clear away the earth and, shortly afterwards, spotted the roof of an old yellow bus.

When the inscription « School Transport » appeared underground, one of the workers remembered a story his grandfather used to tell him.

The police were immediately called to the scene.

The bus was found several meters underground. The windows were shattered, the bodywork rusted, and the interior was completely filled with mud.

Investigators examined the vehicle for several hours before they were able to open the rear emergency door.

Inside were still some old school backpacks, children’s shoes, books and a few toys. On one of the benches lay a small pink lunchbox.

But the strangest thing was elsewhere: there wasn’t a single human body inside the bus.

The hidden note on the dashboard:
An investigator named Lana was carefully examining the driver’s seat when she noticed a yellowed piece of paper stuck to the dashboard.

This was the list of students who had participated in the school trip. Next to each name was a checkmark, and below it, written in red marker, were words that left everyone stunned:

« They didn’t die on the bus. Look for them where they forced us to go. »

Lana immediately understood that this might not have been a simple accident.

She ordered that the old documents in the case be reviewed and that the owner of the land where the bus had been found be identified.

It was discovered that in 1986 there had been a long-abandoned children’s holiday camp nearby. The owner was a wealthy businessman named Robert Miller, who had died fifteen years earlier.

However, the documents revealed a strange coincidence. Just three days after the students disappeared, Miller had unexpectedly closed the summer camp, fired the staff, and sold some of its assets.

The testimony of the old guard
Lana decided to find the former guard of the camp, who had in the meantime celebrated his eighty-seventh birthday.

When the old man learned that the bus had finally been found, he turned livid.

« I’ve spent my whole life dreading this day, » he said in a low voice.

The guard stated that, on the day the children disappeared, he had seen the school bus near the holiday camp. Next to it were two cars, and several men were helping the children out of the vehicles.

« I tried to approach, but the owner ordered me to leave immediately. The next day, he told me the field was going to close. »

« Why didn’t you call the police? » Lana asked.

« I had warned them. But a few hours later, two men showed up at my house and threatened my family. I was scared. »

The investigators consulted the old documents and discovered that the guard’s initial testimony had indeed existed, but that, for an unknown reason, it had disappeared from the file.

An illegal adoption scheme.
The police then began analyzing Miller’s financial documents and discovered transfers of large sums to the accounts of several local government officials.

Shortly afterwards, it was discovered that the businessman had set up an illegal system for adopting children abroad.

The children had been kidnapped, given false papers, and then entrusted to wealthy families who had paid considerable sums of money.

But the main question remained unanswered: what had happened to the fifteen students?

Researchers managed to recover the old archives of an organization that had ceased operations. Among hundreds of documents, they discovered photographs of children taken during the summer of 1986.

These were precisely the missing students.

They had been sent to different countries under different identities.

After several months of investigation, the police managed to find nine of them. They had all grown up, started families, and had no idea they had been kidnapped as children.

The search for the other six continued.

The reunion

The most difficult moment was the reunion between one of the women who was found and her biological mother.

For thirty-nine years, this old lady had kept her daughter’s class photo and, every year, on the anniversary of her disappearance, she would go to the old school building.

When her daughter, now fifty years old, entered the room, the mother could not utter a single word.

She stared at her, then began to cry and hugged her tightly.

The fate of the teacher

But during the investigation, another terrible detail emerged.

The teacher who was accompanying the children had tried to prevent the abduction. She was the one who managed to leave the note on the bus before being taken away.

No one has ever been able to discover what happened to him.

Later, investigators discovered that the bus had been buried on Miller’s orders to conceal crucial evidence of the crime. Several police officers had been bribed to obstruct the investigation.

In the end, three participants in this criminal plot, still alive, were arrested.

But for the parents who had spent nearly forty years believing that their children were dead, something else mattered most: they had finally learned what had happened that spring day.

And the old yellow bus, which had spent thirty-nine years underground, became the main piece of evidence in a crime that many hoped to keep secret forever.
